Getlink: Revenue doubles in the 3rd quarter with the increase in passenger traffic and ElecLink

(Reuters) – Channel Tunnel operator Getlink on Thursday posted a 109% increase in third-quarter revenue, driven by growth in passenger traffic and the commissioning of its ElecLink branch, which enables electricity exchanges between France and the United Kingdom

The group reported a turnover of 466.1 million euros for the third quarter, against 223.1 million euros for the same period last year.

“The growth in passenger traffic, our marketing investments as well as the commissioning of ElecLink allow us to establish a higher level of revenue compared to 2021 and confirm the attraction of customers for our low carbon solutions,” declared Yann Leriche, CEO, in a press release.

Traffic through the Channel Tunnel has rebounded this year as pandemic-related travel restrictions eased across Europe.

Eurotunnel’s revenue amounted to €325.8 million, up 71% year-on-year, driven by growth in its Shuttle and Eurostar passenger traffic.

Eurotunnel Shuttles recorded strong traffic growth in the third quarter with 788,560 passenger vehicles transported, up 107% year-on-year.

Eurostar, for its part, welcomed nearly 2.6 million passengers in the third quarter, a jump of 485% over one year.

The group’s new ElecLink unit, operational since May, which allows the circulation of electricity between France and the United Kingdom, contributed 107.4 million euros to the group’s turnover over the period July- September, its first full quarter of activity.
