Ghostbusters: who remembers the brilliant animated series?

A cult film that has widely entered Pop Culture, “Ghostbusters” has seen several films, up to “Ghostbusters: The Ice Menace”. But who remembers its version as an animated series which lasted no less than 7 seasons?

Who You Gonna Call? Ghostbusters!!! We will not insult you by re-explaining to you how Ivan Reitman’s film has become cult for an entire generation. In the galaxy of derivative products, the film was logically adapted into an animated series, under the title The Real Ghostbusters.

Created by the duo Joseph Michael Straczynski and Harold Ramis, it was a great success, to the point of lasting seven seasons, broadcast from September 1986 to September 1991 in the United States, on the ABC network. In France, the series was broadcast from November 1987 on the show Cabou Cadin on Canal+.

Here is the intro credits of the animated series again. The pleasure of listening again to the brilliant song by Ray Parker Jr which accompanied the film, and was nominated for an Oscar…

Characters… not really similar

If the names of our parapsychology researchers have been kept, the animated series has made several changes, starting with the look of the characters. In early promotional artwork for the series, the character Peter Venkman was drawn to look more like Bill Murray and Egon Spengler was drawn to look more like Harold Ramis.

But the animators changed Peter Venkman’s appearance and changed Egon’s hair color from brown to blond, in order to avoid possible prosecution for using the real actors’ features without permission. As for Ray Stanz and Winston Zeddemore, their characters were never drawn to resemble Dan Aykroyd or Ernie Hudson, respectively.

And the famous Bouffe-tout ghost (Slimer in VO)? He is transformed here into a companion of our favorite ghost hunters, where in the film he appears more belligerent. It is also thanks to his popularity in the animated series that it was decided to bring him back in Ghostbusters 2. In fact, such a popular character, widely entered into Pop Culture, that he of course appears in Ghostbusters: the threat of ice!
