“Ghostwire: Tokyo” immerses us in a mystical Japan

Above all an action game, Ghostwire: Tokyo takes the player to Japan for a trip between two worlds in the Japanese capital.

Want a change of scenery? Direction Tokyo where strange things are happening… Behind the game Ghostwire: Tokyo -available since March 25-, the Japanese studio Tango Gameworks founded in 2010 by Shinji Mikami, the creator of the famous Resident Evil series. With this title, the artist abandons horror at the same time as the reins of the project left to Kenji Kimura.

Direction the Shibuya district for a title that intends to immerse us in Japanese culture. Japan enthusiasts will find a thousand and one little references to Japanese culture throughout their adventure, such as the friendly yokai that we cross paths with here and there.

On the architecture side, we find the typical buildings of the city between buildings, ancestral temples, Torii gates, up to the famous Tokyo Tower, alter ego of our national Eiffel Tower. The inhabitants have disappeared, replaced by strange creatures. All of these monsters are inspired by Japanese folklore. Something to delight fans of Japanese horror movies even if the game is much more eyeing action than thrill.

A strange atmosphere

Ghostwire: Tokyo does not intend to frighten the player but rather to plunge him into a strange and gently disturbing atmosphere. The opponent that the player faces is also very mysterious. We just see it at the beginning of the adventure. What is the purpose of the enigmatic occultist who has plunged the city into this supernatural chaos where two worlds seem to coexist?

The hero of this adventure, helped by a spectral entity, will have to lead the investigation in order to save his life but also that of his sister. Of course, to get rid of evil spells and creatures that stand in his way, he will be able to use magic powers.

In the form of an FPS, first-person shooter, but without a weapon (this is good!), the game invites the player to fight many battles. You have to choose your spells according to your enemies to get the most out of them. We also find here and there during these Tokyo wanderings objects thanks to which we can improve these spells. This walk in Tokyo is not easy but also without doubt what makes its charm.

Ghostwire: Tokyo, Bethesda, on PS5 and PC.
