Tessa Worley wins the giant slalom in the mountains of Graubünden ahead of Federica Brignone. Michelle Gisin turns 5.

The pedestal

  • 1. Tessa Worley (FRA) 2:02.35 minutes
  • 2. Federica Brignone (ITA) +0.29 seconds
  • 3. Sara Hector (SWE) +0.31

There was no getting past the French veteran Tessa Worley in the giant slalom in Lenzerheide. With an impressive drive, the 32-year-old drove from 3rd to 1st place in the 2nd round and thus celebrated her 2nd win of the season. Overall, Worley has 16 World Cup triumphs after the recent success.

The fastest in the first run was Olympic champion Sara Hector. She was 3rd. In the end, the Swede lost a good 3 tenths of a second to the fastest of the day, and Hector was a measly 0.02 seconds behind on 2nd place.

The second-placed Italian Federica Brignone managed a clear improvement run after the 5th intermediate place. Arrived at the finish, she clearly pushed the leader Michelle Gisin from the top.

The Swiss

Best Swiss in the Grisons mountains was Gisin. Thanks to a strong 2nd run, the Engelberg woman improved by 2 places and finished 5th. Wendy Holdener should be particularly satisfied with the Swiss. The Schwyz native achieved her best result of the season so far in giant slalom with 8th place.

Andrea Ellenberger was on the way with good intermediate times on the way to the finish. However, the woman from Nidwalden fell in the last part of the course, which left her without any World Cup points.

Lara Gut-Behrami, the Swiss team leader in giant slalom, decided not to start. The Tessinerin got a hit on the knee when driving in and feels tired. It is still unclear whether it will start in Are (SWE) next weekend.

Overall World Cup: Advantage Shiffrin

Like the day before, Mikalea Shiffrin showed a good race in the Super-G, but ended up 4th next to the podium. After the first run, the 26-year-old was still in second place. Even if the American wasn’t able to use her good starting position in the race, she continued to extend her lead in the overall World Cup. Shiffrin is now 117 points ahead of her rival Petra Vlhova, who retired in the first run.

Hrovat causes a moment of shock

Meta Hrovat, who was fourth at half-time, went full attack. With the best split time, the Slovenian attacked one gate too straight in the second run, which resulted in a violent fall. The race was then interrupted for several minutes – with the help of the supervisors, Hrovat was finally able to get up and leave the track.

Here’s how to proceed

The next weekend is entirely dedicated to the technicians. A giant slalom will take place in Are, Sweden on Saturday, and the slalom riders will attack on Sunday. The season finale then takes place in Courchevel-Méribel (FRA) between March 16th and 20th. As always, you can watch all races live on SRF.
