The digital photo frame with Aura sauce dusts off the genre. Gone is the rickety resolution screen, the handling of SD cards and the user interface that is not very user-friendly… Quite a change if we remember their ancestors who had their heyday during the period 2005-2010.

Until December 24, Clubic opens a sound box for you every day advent calendar 2022 : the opportunity to discover unusual or practical gadgets, gift ideas for oneself or for loved ones.

The dematerialization of photos does not only make people happy. Take your grandparents, for example, who bitterly miss photos from vacations or family events. They lovingly kept them in frames that they displayed proudly on the sideboard in the living room. An Aura digital photo frame should (a little) reconcile them with technology.

Here, there is no need to load the images onto a memory card or transfer them from a computer: everything is stored in the Cloud. If you want to send a photo of the youngest to Grandma? Nothing could be simpler, even if you are on the other side of the world.

Connected executives

On your smartphone, select the images to share from the Aura app, then press the “Send” button. A few seconds later, the photo will appear on the frame. Magic ? Not connected. The images are stored in the Cloud, in an ultra-secure space.

They are then “pushed” to the frame where they will be displayed as a slideshow. What if you don’t want to install the app? In this case, you can use the email address of the frame to send your photos there. Of course, only people identified in the application can send images, this protects Grandma from surprises…

The application allows you to force the display of a specific image, as long as you are an authorized user. Aura clarifies that image and video storage is not only free, but also unlimited. The manufacturer guarantees to be able to store at least 10,000 photos per user and that you will never have to pay anything for it.

On the interface side, nothing complicated. The frame is equipped with two touch strips. These allow you to scroll through the images, erase them, activate the sound (if you receive a video) or add a “like”. Why put two? To facilitate use depending on whether the frame is placed horizontally or vertically. Pleasant detail, the change of position is detected automatically and the display adapted accordingly.

Delicate attentions

Before offering the frame, it is possible to upload photos and a message without having to open the box. To do this, simply scan a unique QR code, located under a flap on the outside of the box, then let yourself be guided by the configuration wizard. When connected to Wi-Fi, the message and then the photos will immediately appear on the screen.

The initial configuration has been simplified to the extreme: a Bluetooth chip facilitates the establishment of the Wi-Fi connection from a smartphone. A standby mechanism detects the drop in light intensity of the room where the frame is located. He can turn it off completely when the room is dark.

Aura offers five frame types that basically differ in look and screen. The Carver range includes three 10.1-inch models in 16:9 format in HD, HD Matte or Full HD (149 to 169 euros), while the Mason collection offers 9 and 9.7-inch screens in 4 format: 3 in Full HD or 2K (179 to 239 euros).
