The next generation of processors AMD – the Ryzen 7000 – will have a new management systemoverclocking memory.
For some years now, Intel has implemented a codified system to simplify theoverclocking RAM on its platforms through profiles integrated into said memory modules.
AMD EXPO, a competitor to Intel’s XMP
The release of the Ryzen 7000 will therefore be an opportunity for AMD to do more or less the same, but with a system designed by itself. Called EXPO for Extended Profiles for Overclocking which is equivalent in French to Extended Profiles for Overclocking, the novelty is very close to XMP.
It is therefore always a question of proposing specific settings for the bars sold and, above all, of applying them in the simplest way via a simple click on the EXPO button in the BIOS options of the motherboard. A restart of the machine and… the RAM is boosted.
EXPO allows up to two profiles set up by the memory manufacturers and the latter must certify that it works by specifying the detail of the platform used to authenticate the overclocking.
But a competitor, compatible!
If AMD had already confirmed that XMP profiles could be used on its platforms – but without certification of compatible hardware of course – we learn today that it will be the same in the other direction.
The American had also told us that, technically, nothing prevents Intel platforms from working with EXPO. The integration actually depends much more on the goodwill of the motherboard manufacturers, which Gigabyte confirms to us by indicating in a very official way that the compatibility will be in the senses for its platforms.
The Taiwanese explains that his AM5 motherboards support the AMD EXPO and Intel XMP profiles, but also that his Z690 or B660 chipset-based motherboards will do the same: the user can choose to activate EXPO or XMP. Gigabyte points out that this will also concern its future motherboards. Of course, it will still require a BIOS update.

The processor market is one of the most dynamic in the tech world, but also one of the most dense. AMD and Intel references are numerous, with an annual or biannual update.
