One of the most compact and one of the least expensive ways to integrate a processor Ryzen 7000 in your PC.

A few weeks ago, only four chipsets made it possible to take advantage of AMD’s new Ryzen 7000s: the X670/X670E duos on one side and B650/B650E on the other. Since then, after various rumors, a new kid has arrived, but it is still rare.

Entry level chipset

Baptized A620 by AMD, the chipset is clearly what can be called entry-level for the AM5 platform with the main objective of reducing the cost of the new architecture as much as possible.

Problem, as we have said, motherboards with this chipset are not easy to find and, even more so, in France, where only models in micro-ATX format are available from the main retailers. However, the situation could change with the arrival of the UD A620I-AX, the first mini-ITX motherboard in A620 chipset.

Designed by Gigabyte, the card initiates a wider distribution of the latest chipset from AMD and should allow more variety in the integration of Ryzen 7000: ever more compact machines for example.

“Minimal” features

Unsurprisingly, the Gigabyte UD A620I-AX does not allow any overclocking of the Ryzen processor since, in any case, such features have not been implemented by AMD in its chipset.

AMD does not allow PCI Express Gen 5 support either for storage or graphics and on the UD A620I-AX this translates to a limit of two DDR5 slots (288-pin DIMM ) and a single M.2 port for an NVMe PCIe Gen 4 SSD. A single PCI Express Gen 4 x16 port is also included, while the card needs two power ports (24+8) to operate.

The integration of an RJ45 2.5 GbE network port and a Bluetooth 5.3 + WiFi 6E (ax) controller should not significantly increase a budget which should therefore remain very soft – we are talking about less than 100 dollars – that said , it’s fortunate given the sacrifices made on the AM5 platform.
