Gil Ofarim
The star’s Instagram account has been deactivated
Since it was announced that the Leipzig public prosecutor’s office was filing charges against Gil Ofarim, the star’s Instagram profile has been deactivated.
If you want to call up the official Instagram profile of musician Gil Ofarim (39), you can currently get (March 31) an error message is displayed. It says, “Sorry, this page is unavailable. Either the link you clicked doesn’t work, or the page has been removed.” It is not clear whether the star himself took this step and whether the account was only temporarily or permanently deleted.
The deactivation of the account goes with a new development in the alleged anti-Semitism case, which Ofarim reported in October 2021. At the time, the star claimed in a widely acclaimed video that an employee of the Westin Hotel in Leipzig had treated and insulted him in an anti-Semitic manner.
But the public prosecutor’s office in Leipzig has according to a statement on Thursday (March 31) meanwhile, not only the investigation against the hotel employee because of alleged anti-Semitic statements and false suspicions has been discontinued. In addition, she has now filed charges against Ofarim – because of false suspicion and defamation.
That’s the basis of the charge
The justification for this decision is that after a detailed analysis of all the evidence and witness statements, it is believed that “the events as described by Gil Ofarim in his published video did not actually happen”.
The public prosecutor’s office accuses Gil Ofarim, among other things, of not only repeatedly and now expressly reporting his statements about the alleged course of events during the police interrogation on the evening of October 4, “in knowledge of their untruth, but also to the hotel employee because of his criminal complaint against him for defamation against his better knowledge because of the accusation of false suspicion and thus made himself liable to prosecution for false suspicion”.
