Giovanni Zarrella: “Jana Ina is an incredibly self-confident woman”

Jana Ina (47) and Giovanni Zarrella (45) have been a well-rehearsed team in front of and behind the camera for many years. The couple was recently in front of the camera together again for a Deichmann campaign shoot for a new Puma selection.

How nice is it to be here in front of the camera together for the campaign?

Giovanni: Having a shared job in front of the camera is actually not something that happens every day for us either. And when we get to work together and spend time together and have a bit of togetherness, it’s incredibly nice. We totally enjoy it. Even though it’s a job, we still have an incredibly nice time together. I also have a special connection to Puma. The first soccer shoes I played with as a child were Pumas. The new collection with sneaker models for the whole family is now available from Deichmann.

Which of you is more fashion conscious?

Jana Ina: I am someone who likes to follow fashion and trends and know what is current. I also read all the fashion magazines. But my husband is also very fashion conscious! Many people think that women always help men. But Giovanni does his styling completely on his own. And beware: I’m the one who always comes to him and asks, “Do you think this is okay? Can I go out like this?” That’s funny, right?

Giovanni: I have been Jana Ina’s stylist for almost two decades now. Jana Ina is an incredibly self-confident woman, but she still wants one final look from me. Whether that suits the occasion, whether it’s too much or too little… She would like to get a second opinion, and that’s mine. She trusts me there too – and I’ve always sent her out on the street sensibly.

Do you coordinate your outfits when you appear in public?

Giovanni: On the red carpet you can see that everyone is in tune with each other. I like to wear dark clothes, either a black or a blue suit or tuxedo. Jana Ina is actually pretty free to let off steam. She really enjoys wearing colorful clothes.

Jana Ina: Yes, that’s true. My outfits are usually colorful. You rarely see me in black, so I’m very grateful that my husband is more reserved when it comes to his colors. So I can wear whatever I want. But you make sure that the accessories fit, that one doesn’t go with gold accessories and the other with silver. You want to create a beautiful, harmonious picture. So we talk to each other a little bit.

Jana Ina, what outfit do you prefer to see Giovanni in?

Jana Ina: Giovanni is very stylish and also diverse when it comes to his style. I think that’s really great. But I particularly like to see my husband in a nice slim suit, combined with a shirt and sneakers. I really like this because I think it’s a cool, chic casual look that’s suitable for any occasion. And that just suits him.

Giovanni, which look do you like best on Jana Ina?

Giovanni: Jana Ina is very, very stylish. For example, I like it when she wears suits. Or a little more fabric trousers and then with a blouse or a nice shirt. I like it when it’s a mix of elegant fabrics and a casual look.

Keyword “casual look”: Who has more sneakers in their closet?

Giovanni: Jana Ina has really caught up with sneakers. I’ve always been at the forefront, even from my hip-hop-driven time with Bro’Sis. But Jana Ina has upped the ante in the last two or three years… Boxes of sneakers arrived at home that could be stacked.

Jana Ina: Yes, I think that also came with age, with being a mother. Sneakers are simply perfect for everyday wear, and thank God fashion has changed so much that every woman can even wear an evening dress with sneakers. They are so fashionable and so cool these days. And what’s more, they’re comfortable. Nowadays I combine sneakers with everything. And when I actually appear somewhere in high heels, it’s always work clothes because I have to. Otherwise I only wear sneakers.

You both travel a lot, but do you still always manage to exchange ideas on important topics?

Jana Ina: Yes, we have always listened to each other and our gut feeling, no matter at what point in our lives. Whether it’s about style or any contracts being signed, we’ve actually always listened to each other. We always call each other and say, “What do you think about this?” Or we send each other pictures. We’ve always done it that way and it’s never changed. We have been a good team for 20 years.

They are both also active on social media. Giovanni, you’re lagging behind your wife here…?

Giovanni: Yeah, I’m not that into the game. My wife says I have to do more. She’s also right because she has twice as many followers as me.

Does your husband get annoyed when you do social media?

Jana Ina: Giovanni is my Insta-Husband. This is the one who always has to take the photos.
