Girl dies in violent roqya

An Algerian girl, just 10 years old, died from a violent roqya session, an exorcism. She showed signs of "beating and burning".

The terrible acts took place in eastern Algeria. A 10-year-old girl died after a violent roqya session, an exorcism specific to Islam. According to the prosecutor of Guelma, she seemed to have suffered "beatings and burns". The raki would have subjected the child to a real torture. The fragile body of the girl could not bear this torture.

Raki, 28, arrested after baby's death "who was abused during a roqya (healing by faith) to which she was subjected in her family home ", explains the prosecutor in a press release. However, he did not specify why the girl was subjected to the roqya, a practice often carried out with the aim of treating the sick, of "cast out a demon", to protect against "the evil eye" or cure infertility.

According to the prosecutor's press release, the girl died after being hospitalized in Guelma. The prosecutor ordered an autopsy and an investigation into the child's death.

Healing by faith is allowed in Islam because it is done using the word of God. However, many admit that practice can lead to abuse, especially on "patients" who experience mental health issues.

The death of the little girl caused a real uproar on the Web. Many Internet users have in particular denounced the lack of media coverage of the tragedy "despite the cruelty of the acts committed by this charlatan "." Shall we pretend for a long time not to see … a 10-year-old girl tortured and killed by a raki in Guelma?"wrote journalist Akram Kharief, director of the website MENA Defense, on his page Facebook. The correspondent of the Algerian radio station in the city of Constantine denounced an act "abominable committed by a charlatan".
