Gladbach receives the master
Bundesliga starts with a traditional hit
The new Bundesliga season starts on August 13th with a traditional duel: The champions FC Bayern have to compete at Borussia Mönchengladbach. It will be the first game for Julian Nagelsmann and Adi Hütter at their new clubs. In the 2nd league there is a clash of former first division representatives.
Defending champion Bayern Munich will open the 59th Bundesliga season with an away game at Borussia Mönchengladbach on August 13th. This was announced by the German Football League (DFL) when it presented the fixtures for the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga.
Julian Nagelsmann at the Munich team and Adi Hütter at the Gladbach team will also meet two new coaches. In the past season, Bayern handled the later relegated FC Schalke 04 8-0 at the start of the season. The traditional season opener for the champions is broadcast by Dazn and Sat.1, which takes place only 33 days after the European Championship finals.
The runner-up RB Leipzig opens their season with an away game at 1. FSV Mainz 05, Borussia Dortmund starts at home against Eintracht Frankfurt. The newly promoted VfL Bochum and Greuther Fürth start with away games in Wolfsburg and Stuttgart, respectively.
Is there the tenth Bayern championship celebration in a row?
FC Bayern are aiming for their tenth German championship in a row and 32nd overall. The last matchday is scheduled for May 14, 2022. The 2022 DFB Cup final will take place seven days later in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium.
The duel between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern is not scheduled until matchday 14. Runner-up RB Leipzig welcomes FC Bayern on the 4th matchday (September 11th / 12th), while BVB will have to play for the Saxons on matchday 11 (5th-7th November).
After the 17th matchday (December 17 to 19), the Bundesliga will have a short winter break, and games will resume from January 7, 2022. Only one English week is planned (16th matchday, 14/15 December). The first title of the new season will be awarded at the DFL Supercup between DFB Cup winners Borussia Dortmund and champions FC Bayern on August 17th (8.30 p.m. / Sky and Sat.1) in Signal Iduna Park.
Schalke have to play against HSV
The 2nd Bundesliga will start playing on July 23rd. The prominent relegated Schalke 04 and Werder Bremen will start with Hamburger SV and Hannover 96 respectively. The newly promoted Dynamo Dresden and FC Ingolstadt begin with a direct duel, the FC Hansa Rostock receives the Karlsruher SC at the beginning.
The eagerly awaited northern derby between Bremer and Hamburger SV will take place on the seventh match day. Werder will also initially have home rights in mid-September.
