With new measures, Google continues to hunt down spammers © Google

Through an official blog post, Google wanted to return to new measures to come, which should eradicate (in part) spam on Gmail.

Like any Gmail user, you probably receive classic messages in your inbox every day, but also the occasional spam. This is because Google already very extensively filters these so-called “junk” emails, which are stored in a separate inbox. In 2024, Google intends to make life (even more) difficult for spammers.

Google continues its fight against spam

For a long time now, Google has been refining its various tools aimed at combating spam within Gmail. From 2024, however, the American giant announces that it wants to go even further, by imposing various restrictions on bulk senders (i.e. those who send more than 5,000 messages daily).

Starting in 2024, we will require email senders to authenticate their emails, provide easy unsubscribe, and stay below a certain spam threshold », Indicates Google. The group specifies that the AI in place already prevents more than 99.9% of spam, phishing and other malicious software from reaching our mailboxes.

More restrictions for “bulk senders”

Every day, no less than 15 billion unwanted emails are blocked by the tools set up by Google. In order to fight spam more effectively, mass senders will have to authenticate their email, by carrying out various manipulations.

From 2024, Gmail will integrate new tools aimed at drastically reducing spam © Google

The latter must also systematically allow users to unsubscribe with a single click, while having the obligation to process unsubscribe requests within 48 hours maximum. Google will also take into account user feedback regarding reported spam.

In this way, a sender seeing too many of their emails being flagged as spam could be devalued by Google and see their future emails redirected to the spam box, instead of the traditional inbox.

For Google, these practices must become “ basic hygiene rules » when it comes to email. These new rules will come into force from February 2024.
