Google will sprinkle AI in the “search” section of its essential Gmail.
This is yet another incursion of artificial intelligence into the wide range of services offered by the American giant.
AI to the rescue (also) of Gmail
Anxious to regularly optimize its Gmail messaging client (which now offers a certification service, Twitter style), Google today announced the deployment of a new update, initially dedicated to the mobile version of the software. This is an AI-powered feature, which aims to find exactly what the user is looking for, with less effort.
” In 2017, we launched the “Suggested Answer” feature, short answer suggestions that you can select with a click. Followed by “Smart Writing”, which offers writing suggestions as you type “says Google.

How it works ?
Concretely, this new Gmail search function (on mobile) will use machine learning, which will use the search term, the most recent emails, but also “ other relevant factors to rank the results based on what best matches the user’s search.
The results in question will then appear at the top of the list, in a new dedicated section (called “Top Results”), and will be followed by all the results classified according to the user’s preferences, as is currently the case.
According to Google, this is to respond to a very strong demand from users, who will be able to take advantage of this new function in the coming days.
The deployment has, in fact, started at the very beginning of June, and will concern all Gmail users.
