If you can’t take any more of the dozens of newsletters and other spam that fill your inbox GmailGoogle is preparing something that you might like.

The democratization of email has unfortunately been accompanied by a democratization of spam with tons of unwanted ads, press releases, and other newsletters that clutter our digital mailboxes. Fortunately, certain innovations pushed by service providers have made it possible to limit the torrent of spam. Gmail will also pass the second at this level.

Adios to spam?

As noted by the specialized site PiunikaWeb, the Gmail application for Android will soon have a section dedicated to these invasive emails, while allowing you to unsubscribe more easily than ever. Via a filter named “Manage your subscriptions», which will find its place in the side menu of the application, you will be able to find all the emails coming from mailing lists. A button “unsubscribe» displayed next to each one will also allow you to delete your email address from the relevant database in one click.

Better yet, this new option will allow you to see which senders send you the most emails since the newsletters will be sorted by sending frequency. So, you can at a glance see the companies that send you more than 20 emails per quarter, between 10 and 20 per quarter or less than 10 per quarter. A practical way to identify those who are abusing your attention span and your digital storage space.

The feature is coming soon

For the moment, the functionality is not even official yet since you have to dig into the code of the Android app to see what it is. Some users on Reddit claim to have received an alert message informing them of the availability of this feature, but it only displays a white screen and loads emptyly, a sign that Google has not yet deployed the option server side.

The feature will undoubtedly arrive within the iPhone application in the coming weeks, while the search giant refines everything a little. In any case, it is pleasant to see that Google takes this problem seriously and offers effective tools to limit the level of spam that pollutes our mailboxes. All you have to do is wait for the functionality to be officially deployed and then do a little cleaning up your email subscriptions.

On weekends I torture Raspberry Pis with lots of 'sudo' commands to relax.
