God of War Ragnarök encourages being sadistic with enemies

God of War Ragnarök is revealed a little more in the columns of Game Informer. Kratos will have new ways to slay the many enemies facing him.

The end of 2022 will be marked by the launch of a particularly anticipated game on PS4 and PS5: God of War Ragnarok, sequel to a masterpiece still featuring the charismatic Kratos. For the moment, Sony is quite discreet about it, probably not to spoil any surprises. Game Informer was still entitled to exclusive information on new features, especially on the gameplay side.

For us, it’s an opportunity to get a glimpse of Kratos’ new abilities in a video shared on September 2. We see the hero, accompanied by his son Atreus, unleashing his fury on reptilian enemies with incredible ease. God of War Ragnarok promises to be more violent than ever, with ever more impressive fights. Above all, they foreshadow more possibilities, which will give a little more depth to this exclusivity developed by Sony Santa Monica.

In the next God of War, we will be able to freeze or ignite enemies

Release date

God of War Ragnarok will be available on November 9 on PS4 and PS5.

In God of War Ragnarokwe can literally play with enemies, that is, imagining stylish, almost sadistic ways to get rid of it. For this, we will have at our disposal new devastating powers. Kratos will be able to ignite his opponents with his Blades of Chaos or freeze them with his Leviathan axe. Sony Santa Monica attributed these two additions, called Signature Moves, to the Triangle key, which once served only to call the ax back to you after throwing it (like a boomerang). We imagine that some enemies will be more vulnerable to fire, others to ice, which could involve constant adaptation.

There is an internal philosophy that we have been developing for a while: that Kratos plays with his food. We tried to create new mechanics that are fun and varied. And looking at the fights from the first game, we thought, ‘We can go further, we can find new toys and new ways to have fun with enemies and strategies’ “says Mihir Sheth, in charge of the design of the clashes.

In addition to these new offensive options, Kratos will have new ways to defend himself with his shield. It is now divided into two categories:

  • The Dauntless Shield allows you to retaliate with a powerful attack if you parry at the last moment. It will be intended for the most reactive players;
  • The Stonewall Shield, on the other hand, stores energy upon receiving hits until it produces a ground attack that can stun enemies. With him, parade is impossible.

The short video finally shows more fluidity in the movements of Kratos, who can for example climb very quickly to heights so as never to lose the rhythm of the fight. As for Atreus, he should still be of sometimes invaluable help.
