In the third episode of the documentary Doctor Godard – The Man Who Wanted to Quit Everything, broadcast this Sunday March 19 on TF1, the protagonists of the case return to the day when the skull of little Camille Godard, 6, was fished out in the bay of Saint-Brieuc.
It was the outcome that the whole of France feared. June 6, 2000, eight months after the disappearance of the doctor Yves Godard and his two children, Camille and Marius6 and 4 years old, the skull of little Camille was fished out by a shellfish collector in the bay of Saint-Brieuc, off Erquy. A sadly significant event, which some protagonists of the case remember as if it were yesterday. In the third episode of the documentary Doctor Godard – The Man Who Wanted to Leave Everythingbroadcast this Sunday, March 19 on TF1, they tell.
That day, Jérôme C.’s trawler was cruising the bay of Saint-Brieuc. “In a first trawl, he finds something like a skull cap, says Thierry Lezeau, director of the investigation. He (his boss, editor’s note) said to him ‘Oh well listen, throw it back in the water’.” But grim discoveries followed. “Second line, a few hours later, there, on the other hand, a whole skull. So there, he remonstrates that to his boss and says to him ‘But did you see that? It’s a child!’ So there, the boss said to him, ‘Put it in the bin, we’ll give it to the gendarmes on the way home.’

A photo, revealed by the documentary Doctor Godard – The Man Who Wanted to Leave Everything on TF1, shows the small human skull deposited in a simple plastic crate, before being given to the competent authorities. A terrible cliché, especially since the discovery of Camille’s skull has reduced to dust all the hopes of those close to her. “It was one of the major trials for the family members because until the discovery of the skull, there was always a small glimmer of hope.“, says Jean de Mézérac, lawyer for the family of Marie-France Godard, the wife of Doctor Godard who also disappeared. Note that the skull of the girl was identified thanks to a DNA sample.
Twenty-three years later, we still don’t know what really happened to Camille Godard, her brother Marius, and her parents. In 2006, Yves Godard’s femur and tibia were in turn fished out from the bottom of the Casquets pit. As for Marius and Marie-France Godard, they have never been found.
