Good deal – The Corsair K95 RGB Platinum “5-star” keyboard at €149.99 (-18%)

New high-end keyboard from Corsair, the K95 RGB Platinum has the difficult task of replacing the K95 (RGB) in the manufacturer’s catalog. To put all the chances on its side, it is equipped with the latest ultra-fast Cherry MX Speed switches and plays the luminous aesthetic card with a new backlit area on its upper edge. In return, it loses two thirds of its macro keys, which risks disappointing fans of additional controls. This at least has the merit of reducing the keyboard clutter.

Aesthetic, well built, comfortable and responsive, the K95 RGB Platinum is a success. The removal of a few macro keys is, in our opinion, not a big loss, even if the biggest users of these functions will inevitably be disappointed. However, this makes it possible to reduce the size of the keyboard, which becomes significantly less bulky and regains more classic proportions. The integration of Cherry MX Speed switches on our test version will also delight fans of extreme responsiveness.

Strong points

  • Very fast Cherry MX Speed switches.
  • A very good manufacturing quality.
  • Convenient media controls.
  • Complete and aesthetic backlighting.
  • Good comfort of use.
  • 6 dedicated macro keys.
  • USB pass-through port.
  • 3 customizable profiles saved in the keyboard’s internal memory.

Weak points

  • No headphone and microphone jacks.
  • Single USB port.
  • Slightly thick braided sheath.
  • No deployable feet on the front (the K70 RGB Rapidfire is equipped with them).
  • Messy palm rest.

NB: The reported price drop is calculated by comparing the lowest price of the day with the average of the lowest prices charged by all merchants for the product last month, with security rules to exclude the prices of stores whose the VAT policy is not clear (so-called “gray” stores, typically in the case of imports from China).

Alternatively

The Vulcan II Mini is a very good keyboard for gamers looking for excellent responsiveness in a compact format while having advanced backlight customization. We salute the originality of the design and the transparent switches – which will have their fans and their detractors. Otherwise, we regret the absence of PBT plastic on this rather high-end model.
