Thanks to its low persistence, very little ghosting and reduced input lag, the 27-inch Samsung Odyssey G7 is an excellent monitor for demanding and competitive gamers. Icing on the cake, it is very well calibrated by default and also offers good native contrast. We can simply blame it for its high consumption and its limited brightness peak, but it’s a lesser evil if we consider the G-Sync and FreeSync compatibility as well as its excellent ergonomics.

Strong points

  • VA Quad HD 240 Hz panel.
  • Reactivity.
  • Image well calibrated by default.
  • Contrast.
  • Finishing.
  • Neat ergonomics.
  • FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility.

Weak points

  • High consumption.
  • Lack of gamma adjustment (which is however good by default).
  • Disappointing brightness peak.
  • Requires a very powerful graphics card to operate it properly.

The Asus TUF Gaming VG279QM is an excellent gaming monitor aimed primarily at performance enthusiasts. Although originally calibrated, it lacks a bit of contrast and a USB hub to be perfect. It is today the most responsive IPS monitor on the market and remains the only one able to compete with the most powerful TN models. It is a product of choice for cyberathletes. The others will gladly turn to the AOC 27G2U, which is a little less responsive and limited to 144 Hz, but also less expensive.
