Amazon will soon release a new movie dubbed Good Night Oppydedicated to the Martian robot Opportunity.
Indeed, before Perseverance, NASA had launched two vehicles on Mars: Spirit and Opportunity.
A film about the Mars robot Opportunity
For a few months now, the Martian robot Perseverance has allowed us to discover the planet Mars more closely. Before him (at the beginning of the year 2004), it was the robot Opportunity which trod the ground of the red planet, and it is the latter which will be at the heart of a documentary film to come soon to the cinema and on Amazon Prime Video.
This film, called Good Night Oppy, will use archival footage and animation to narrate the adventures of robot Opportunity and its twin Spirit. Both were programmed to set foot on Martian soil for 90 days, but the adventure ultimately lasted 15 years for Opportunity. The latter was finally abandoned by NASA in 2019, after being paralyzed by yet another sandstorm.
The film Good Night Oppy will take care of bringing us to life the events and disasters encountered by Opportunity (and Spirit) as well as the solutions found by NASA to continue to exploit the robots during all these years. The availability date is set for November 24 on Amazon Prime Video.
