Google is actively preparing the launch of its new range of smartphones pixels.

However, it seems that the American giant also has the idea of soon offering a “mini” version of its flagship smartphone.

The “mini” smartphone, a remnant of a distant past?

Our smartphones have had an XXL format for a few years now, with a touch screen that exceeds (sometimes briskly) 6″ diagonally. However, there was a time when the “compact” smartphone was very popular, some remembering in particular the mini models from Sony or even from Samsung.

Today, however, this same “mini” format no longer seems to suit our modern habits. If Apple has tried the iPhone mini experience for two generations, the recent iPhone 14 range has put an end to the ambitions of the American group in this area, the fault of a demand that is probably very (too) weak.

A Pixel mini soon at Google?

Yet the leaker Chinese Digital Chat Station believes that the “mini” format would not be completely abandoned, and that Google would be working on a new flagship with a compact screen. A smartphone whose touch screen would display a diagonal lower than the 6.1 “screen on board the Pixel 6a. Remember that the iPhone mini had a 5.4 “screen.

This future Google Pixel mini would also have an integrated punch directly in the center of the upper part of the screen, not to mention a new design for the rear face.

Of course, to develop a more compact smartphone, Google would have to make various changes, aesthetic obviously, but also from a strict technical point of view.

Also, such a smartphone would then carry a lower capacity battery and could ignore certain features present on the other Pixels, in particular on the side of the photo section.

It remains to be seen now whether Google is really working on such a smartphone, but also whether users are willing to return to a more compact format, after having handled smartphones with a “giant screen” for several years.

And you, would you be interested in a smartphone with a small screen?
