  • In Google search, you can currently “infect” your screen with the cordyceps fungus.
  • You can use it to overgrow your desktop at the push of a button.
  • All you have to do is search “The Last of Us” on Google.

Since January 16, 2023 you can see the first season of the television series The Last of Us in Germany on Wow. Currently you can find an Easter Egg inspired by the series in Google search. All you have to do is search “The Last of Us” on Google.

Next to the search results, you’ll see a round button with a mushroom on it at the bottom of the page on both mobile and desktop. If you click on it, you will be “rewarded” with the Cordyceps fungus known from the series, which appears to be infecting your screen.

Wild growth at the touch of a button

The more times you press the mushroom, the worse it gets. Unlike in the series, you don’t have to first find an antidote or happen to have an immune screen. There is an X to the left of the mushroom button, which will clear the screen for you again.

Google is known for beautifying the search engine with temporary Easter eggs for special occasions or popular works of pop culture. Recently, the company has introduced something similar for the successful NASA Dart mission or the popular Holi spring festival.
