Google doodle highlights Ladybug, trans icon

Jacqueline-Charlotte Dufresnoy was known by the stage name Coccinelle. She became a transgender muse very early in the 1950s, and her fight helped advance LGBTQI+ rights in France.

From this Tuesday, August 23, in France and in six other countries, Google is putting on the colors of a historical personality with a new Doodle. This is the design that replaces the search engine logo, on the home page and when you enter a query. By clicking on it, you will be redirected to the information pages about it.

In this case, the personality is Coccinnelle, her pseudonym for the stage, and Jacqueline-Charlotte Dufresnoy, her real name. LGBTQI+ activist, singer, artist, she is a transgender icon. The tribute is paid to her on this date for her 91st birthday – she was born on August 23, 1931 and died on October 9, 2006.

Jacqueline-Charlotte Dufresnoy, first celebrity to change gender

In 1958, Jacqueline-Charlotte Dufresnoy was the first celebrity to change gender on her marital status. During this legal battle, she is defended by the lawyer Robert Badinter. She then became a transgender muse – and she appeared in various programs of the time such as Turn Manège, Dossiers de l’screen or even on the Ardisson plateau.

She is also the first person to have undergone gender affirmation surgery, which here corresponds to vaginoplasty. It should be remembered that at the time, any behavior not associated with the assigned sex – including the clothes worn – was prohibited. His fight has therefore contributed to LGBTQI + rights in France. She then created the association Devenir Femme and in 1995 participated in the founding of CARITIG (Center for assistance, research and information on transsexuality and gender identity).

Besides, she is a recognized artist, for example having a triumph at the Casino de Paris with her 1989 show, alongside Pascal Sevran.

All Google doodles remain available online in the dedicated directory.
