The advent of passkeys has finally arrived. This new authentication method, safer and more convenient than passwords, will become the new standard for proving your identity on the Internet. All the big names in Silicon Valley support it, and this new initiative from Google will further accelerate the movement.
Passkeys will save you chore of creating a new password at regular intervals to access all websites and other applications installed on your smartphone. Indeed, your devices become the “key” to unlock access to all these services. Unlocking access to your device, using a password, a PIN code or any other biometric identifier, will be enough to identify you on the services you commonly use.

Google announced that passkeys are an official means of connection to the company’s various services in May 2023. That said, it did not yet force Internet users to use this way of identifying themselves, and the adoption of passkeys was done on a voluntary basis.
Google begins to impose the creation of passeskeys
This will change shortly, since today Google will display a message asking you to create a passkey when you log in to your Google account. Now, if you try to sign in to your Google account, a page will appear that says the advantages of passkeys. They allow you to use your fingerprint, your face or even your lock screen to verify that “it’s really you”.

This authentication method does not constitute not a 100% security guarantee against malicious people if you lose your device, you can always deactivate the passkeys from your Google account, from any other smartphone, tablet or PC. This new measure should make many people happy, since according to the company, “ 64% of users find passkeys easier to use than traditional methods.
