A new button is causing a stir on YouTube. According to information from the US online magazine Android Police, it suddenly appears when you scroll through the feed to your home page. The button has the inscription “Play something”.
The title also reveals the function. If you press the button, you will be shown a randomly selected YouTube short video. It is unclear whether the selection is influenced by your search queries or the channels you subscribe to. By the way, the button is still only shown to a small number of users and primarily only in the USA. A Reddit user spotted it for the first time in May 2023. It remains to be seen whether and when it will be shown to all of you.

By the way, the idea is not new. Netflix also offered such a shuffle button for a long time, but removed it in February 2023. The reason: It was apparently only rarely used by the streaming service’s fans.
Google search itself also offers a kind of shuffle button called “Good luck”. This usually leads you directly to the first hit for a search term. For certain search terms you can also activate Easter eggs.
