With the Pixel Watch, Google introduced its first Android smartwatch. This fact now obliges us even more to improve and keep the Wear OS operating system up to date. That’s exactly what Google intends to do. Other manufacturers should also benefit from this.
Google brings smartwatches to smartphone level
Just like the adaptations of Android for tablets, Google let Wear OS grind for a long time and served it more casually. But the focus has been on it for some time and not only the manufacturers benefit from this, but also you as customers. Google promises Wear OS will now receive a major update with new features every year, just like Android (Source: Wired). In addition, Google plans to release smaller updates each quarter that introduce improvements. The further development of the smartwatch operating system should therefore run permanently.
Older smartwatches equipped with a Snapdragon Wear 4100 and 4100+ should receive the update to Wear OS 3 later this year. Exact details at a point in time are not yet available. However, it is already clear that a complete reset will be carried out when upgrading from Wear OS 2 to Wear OS 3. So it’s not a small update, but a completely new software version that resets the smartwatch.

Battery life of smartwatches should be better
One of the biggest issues with Wear OS smartwatches is battery life. Google knows this too and has decided that the efficiency of the operating system should be improved. This is a major challenge, especially for smaller watches that have correspondingly small batteries. How much better the battery life can be, we will see in the future. With the Pixel Watch, Google feels more committed to Android smartwatches to improve the entire ecosystem.
