Google Maps offers some interface modifications which may (slightly) disrupt the habits of its users. On the program, a change of routes, with the abandonment of the full screen for a new map system.

Each interface change made by Google in Google Maps can cause the entire planet to react. GPS software is in fact one of the most used applications in the world, with more than a billion people using the maps and directions added by the search engine to find their way, or the best restaurant nearby. Suffice it to say that the American firm has no room for error in each of its modifications. Today, the Android version is about to receive an update to its interface and the additions are numerous.

A card view rather than full screen

The first change made by Google developers is to look for directions. By pressing the search field, the interface no longer goes full screen, but opens in the form of a card, which always leaves the card appearing in the background.

The card also has two new buttons. The first allows you to share a point of interest or a destination with one of your contacts via instant messaging. The second simply allows you to close the map to return to the map.

When you click on the “Destination” button, another map with rounded edges opens and gives you access to the usual Google Maps options, such as selecting the mode of transport, for example opting for cycling or public transport . The options are already present with the current design, but now fall under the fingers for greater comfort.

Address search frees itself from the interface with a floating window

The search bar has also been slightly revised in this new version of the application. Previously fixed at the top of the page, it is now floating and remains permanently at the top of the page. It is also no longer integrated into search results, for better readability.

As usual, not all users will have immediate access to this new interface. You will first need to obtain the latest application update (Google Maps version 11.113.x). The deployment should take several days to be complete.

For the moment, there is no information indicating that Google Maps for iOS is affected by these changes, but Google will surely be keen to maintain consistency in its interfaces. iPhone users will have to wait a little longer to experience this new layout.
