The map service Google Maps is suddenly different and at the same time a little less practical. You may have already noticed this change.

You have probably already entered an address into Google search on your desktop PC or notebook and then seen a map section from Google Maps. Clicking on this graphic used to lead to the navigation service.
This is no longer the case. Since March 2024, nothing has happened when you click on the map section in the browser. However, if the address is displayed below the image, you can click on the link there and you will then be taken to Google Maps. Or you can open the app directly.
Google has already communicated the reason for the change. This is about adhering to the requirements of the EU law “Digital Markets Act” (DMA), which has now come into force and is aimed at regulating digital platforms in the European Union.
Always new features
The developers want to continually improve the map service. A new function makes navigation with Google Maps easier and a patent suggests how Google wants to help avoid annoying traffic jams.
