But don’t worry, the object called Serpent d’Océan is not a fossil, but an art installation. It comes from the Chinese-French artist Huang Yong Ping, who also plays with the tides in the installation. According to Tripadvisor, Serpent d’Océan is the number 1 attraction in the region. With 340 reviews, it received four out of five possible stars.
Marvel at the artwork in the 4K video
The following YouTube video was taken with a drone and shows the artwork, which can only be seen at low tide, in all its glory:
A snake as large as the 130 meter long Serpent d’Océan does not yet exist on earth. Titanoboa is the largest snake said to have ever walked the earth. Researchers estimate their size to be up to 13 meters. However, it has been considered extinct since the Paleocene. The anaconda is currently the largest snake in the world. It reaches a length of up to 9 meters.
More monstrous Google Maps finds
Incidentally, the Serpent d’Océan is not the only “giant snake” in France. At Parc Saint-Pierre in the city of Amiens in northern France, a similar creature rises from the waters of the city park lake. The snake called Agualuna is only 40 meters long and was made by the Mexican artist Yolanda Gutierrez in 2000 for a city festival. You can marvel at them if you enter these coordinates in Google Maps: “49.89936831995618, 2.3083771573529908”.
These giant spiders in Seattle are not for the faint of heart either. In fact, they are also works of art, but they are extremely realistic. These traces of a sandworm in the Sahara also have an artistic origin.
Whereas there is no art object hidden behind this huge dragonfly in front of Seattle.
There are mysterious things to discover not only on Google Maps. The meaning of a new WhatsApp icon is also not obvious at first glance.
