Google Messages is about to do some spring cleaning in your text messages

The SMS management application is starting to deploy two new features, respectively allowing you to automatically categorize your SMS and delete authentication messages after 24 hours.

Google Messages is full of new features. For the past few months, the app has been reminding you to reply to old messages, wishing your friends happy birthdays, and even supports iMessage reactions. To make your life even easier, Google was working on a feature to automatically clean up your inbox. This would now be in the process of being deployed, automatically ridding you of useless authentication SMS.

Automatic deletion of authentication messages

The application therefore begins to automatically recognize authentication SMS messages, which are generally only valid for a few minutes, and offers to automatically delete them 24 hours after they are received. This deletion is managed automatically and can be activated or deactivated at any time in the settings. As soon as it is available, a notification like the one below will ask you if you want to activate it and thus automatically delete these SMS.

An automatic categorization of SMS

In addition to cleaning up your text messages, Google Messages also has an automatic message categorization feature. Unlike the one already available in Gmail, this option will simply separate your professional messages from those of a personal nature. It will be necessary to see how it will behave in use, because such a categorization seems risky, in particular because one can wonder how a conversation with a colleague will be classified or if a message from your mobile operator will appear in the professional section.

Although useful, these features are not yet available globally. Indeed, they are starting to be accessible in India and the United States, but Google has not published a deployment schedule. Nothing is less certain about their availability in France and you will therefore have to continue to delete your authentication messages for some time.
