Google continues to sprinkle Bard on its services and to increasingly incorporate its generative AI into its various applications. Google Messages should know something about this soon.
Clues discovered by Assemble Debug in version 20240111_04_RC00 of the Google Messages application, strongly suggest that Google is about to install Bard on its messaging application. Google’s artificial intelligence could notably be invoked for RCS exchanges with other contacts, and would even be able to be added to conversations, potentially in order to be requested by the various participants. A track that does not fail to arouse curiosity.
For context, it should be remembered that Google is gradually rolling out Bard across all of its services and applications. The idea of seeing the firm’s generative AI integrate Google Messages is therefore far from being preposterous. It would even be surprising if she didn’t end up packing her bags there.
Bard on Google Messages? It would be soon…
The screenshots shared by Assemble Debug allow us to have a first glimpse of what Google is up to in this area. We discover in particular that with Bard, Google Messages users will be able to write messages with its assistance, but also to translate text, and identify images, among other things. We also learn that Bard would use the user’s location and past conversations to enrich its responses.
Note, however, that this feature will only be offered to users aged 18 or over, and that it will not be end-to-end encrypted… which could deter some. Google also indicates that the data used by Bard in the context of Google Messages will be saved (and probably used) for 18 months. And that’s not all: users enabling Bard on Messages will need to keep in mind that their messages will be likely to be seen by Google reviewers.
Users can, however, manually deactivate Bard from Google Messages at any time. In this specific case, their data will then be deleted after 72 hours.
It remains to be seen when Bard will actually make its debut on Google Messages… and whether users of the application will be ready to accept the compromises induced by AI on the thorny terrain of confidentiality.
