Google announced a new feature powered by artificial intelligence (AI) in Google Sheets. It is deployed as part of the Duet AI offerthe AI assistant developed specifically for the Workspace suite.
The company is gradually integrating tools into its service, with each application benefiting from new capabilities. In June, it already launched the Help Me Organize feature in Google Sheets. As its name suggests, this helps the user organize themselves in the spreadsheet. Simply describe what you want to accomplish there, and the AI will then generate personalized models in no time. Now, Sheets has a new feature that’s just as useful.
A great time saver
Called Enhanced Smart Fill, the latter is an extension of the Smart Fill tool initially deployed in 2020. It allows the spreadsheet to automatically remember what a user regularly types, and to autonomously predict and complete what will follow.
Google is now going further thanks to its advances in generative AI. Its new functionality is capable of detecting relationships between the contents of different cells. Sheets can then make contextual suggestions to automatically fill in the remaining values. It was designed to help users spend less time manually organizing and analyzing data within the application.
Supported features include “ sentiment classification, text combination and generation, specific text extraction, address formatting, phone and email structuring, text condensing, and much more », Indicates the Mountain View firm in a blog post.
Useful in many areas
The feature can come in handy in many areas. Google indicates, for example, that a restaurant can more easily organize its reviews and rating data with it. Instead of manually entering data, Sheets detects a pattern in existing review content and suggests values for the remaining cells. The same goes for sales teams who can more easily organize the next steps in a cycle.
Small downside, this new capacity is only available to users who have Google’s Duet AI offer, which is offered at $30 per month.
