This new presentation, inherited from the mobile version of the search engineis already deployed and visible to all users.

The modification by Google of the presentation of search results is always an event, as the American company is particularly conservative with the interface of its search engine.

Favicons and site names appear in Google results

Users may be surprised to see a subtle, but very present, change when displaying their search results. Indeed, instead of the simple list of URL links, Google now offers the name of the website as well as its favicon.

The favicon is the small logo associated with each website and which can be found in a tab or a list of favorites. Inserted in the search results, they make it possible to identify the proposed sites much more quickly by finding the icon of his or her favorite sites.

Another addition made by Google to the presentation of its results page: sponsored links are now more identifiable than before. The advertising links are thus accompanied by the mention “sponsored” displayed in bold.

A new presentation designed to save users time

The introduction of favicons to search results is the culmination of three years of development at Google. It was, in fact, at the beginning of 2020 that the search engine tested the display of the various logos of the sites, but this decision was clearly not to everyone’s taste. Many commented that this new presentation made each link look like an advertising link, making it more difficult to distinguish between organic links and those for which the publisher paid to appear in the top search positions.

Google has therefore refined its copy before offering all users the display of favicons, first on the mobile version in October 2022, and now on web browsers.

Adding the name of the website, as well as its graphic identity, should allow users to know which sources of information they turn to and save them time in their research.
