Available since the end of last year, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro managed to find their audience. However, the smartphones from Google have seen themselves cut off from a feature that could have been available at launch, and which could finally make a comeback very soon.

According to a recent discovery, it seems that the unlocking system by facial recognition will eventually land on the Google Pixel 6 Pro!

Google Pixel 6 Pro: facial recognition on the way?

When the Google Pixel 4 was released in 2019, the Mountain View company had already equipped its smartphone with a facial recognition unlocking system. However, this feature then suddenly disappeared to be replaced only by the fingerprint sensor system. But it seems that this could change very soon, according to a recent discovery.

Recently, while a Reddit user was configuring his Google Pixel 6 Pro, the option of unlocking by facial recognition was suggested to him among the other solutions offered by the mobile (PIN code, fingerprint reader, etc.), before mysteriously vanish. However, the owner of the smartphone has not been able to apply or try this feature.

By exploring the operating system, the site 9to5Google discovered that unlocking by facial recognition could have been available at the launch of the Google Pixel 6 Pro. Indeed, for reasons once again unknown, this option would have been abandoned shortly before the deployment of the new smartphones. Note also that the “Face” option for facial recognition only concerned the Google Pixel 6 Pro. A somewhat odd decision given that both devices feature broadly similar front cameras.

That being said, it could well be that Google finally decides to add facial recognition during an upcoming software update. Until then, and while waiting for an official confirmation, we will still have to arm ourselves with a little bit of patience.
