In this area, Samsung is at the forefront, since it already offers its Galaxy AI generative AI for its latest Galaxy S24, and even deploys this functionality to previous generations. And the South Korean firm does not want to stop there, since it should further boost the capabilities of its future Galaxy S25, with the help of Google and Gemini Nano.
Samsung is not satisfied with Galaxy AI
Is Samsung about to be synonymous with AI smartphones? The accumulating news seems to indicate this. Because after Galaxy AI, it is the second generation of Google’s AI Gemini Nano, the little brother of the Gemini brand’s chatbots, which should appear on the manufacturer’s phones.
The leaker @negativeonehero indicates on X that Samsung is currently in discussions with Google to integrate the second generation of Gemini Nano on its Galaxy S25, which should be made official at the beginning of 2025.
AI running locally, the future for smartphones?
The announcement is all the more interesting as Gemini Nano is capable of running locally, without the need for an internet connection, to generate content. However, AI that can run without connection to the cloud is an option also explored by Samsung’s biggest competitor, namely Apple, and which should be made available as soon as iOS 18 is released. We can therefore expect emulation in the field between the two behemoths.
We can also note that the two big names in smartphones have each initiated discussions with Google to obtain the arrival of Gemini on their devices. Is Google putting itself back at the center of the artificial intelligence game, when it seemed to have been left behind by its competitor Microsoft in 2023?
