On the sidelines of its Google I/O, Google announced a new feature for Google Messages, its SMS application. Called “Magic Compose”, it is an artificial intelligence that can write your SMS for you.
This Google I/O 2023 which took place on May 10 was resolutely placed under the sign of artificial intelligence. Google Bard, Magic Editor, the integration of AI in the search engine, in the office suite or even the presentation of a new AI model, it rained announcements. On Android, we will soon be able to generate wallpapers automatically. But that’s not all: Google Messages also has the right to the presentation of a novelty.
Google Messages will be able to write your SMS for you
On the Google blog, we learn that its SMS application will be equipped with a new feature called Magic Compose. Based on generative AI, it hears “help you add a touch of personality to your conversations.It’s quite paradoxical that an artificial intelligence that has no feelings or personality wants to help you improve this, but that’s the stated objective. For several years, Google Messages has offered predefined replies that can be sent with a click.
Concretely, Google Messages will offer different responses to a message depending on the context of the latter, according to predefined styles. We can also automatically shorten our messages or make them more “professionals“. Among the styles offered in the demo video, we can see “excited», «relaxed», «Shakespeare” or “lyrical“. Replies may include punctuation without following the rules of English, or even emojis.
A priori, there is also a thumbs system to evaluate the answers generated in order to adjust the AI. By clicking on the proposed messages, it is inserted into the text field and all you have to do is press a button to send it. For the moment, Magic Compose is not available, but will be accessible in beta version this summer.
