Android, Chrome OS, or false hope?
Will Google relaunch on the tablet market, many years after the heyday of the Nexus 7? Nothing is less certain, but some sources familiar with Google leaks say that the next Nest Hub connected screen could take the form of it. Physically arranged like a touch pad, it could be installed on its speaker to become a more classic home assistant.
It is difficult for the moment to know if Google will make it a real tablet, since the very question of the operating system remains unclear. The one already integrated into the other Nest Hubs has been updated over the months to offer an experience that is gradually approaching a classic tablet, but it remains far too poor to be able to enjoy it like an iPad, for example. Another solution would be to integrate Chrome OS into it, but the price range of the Nest Hubs is too low to offer a device capable of running this operating system correctly.
So maybe Google will trust its historic OS, Android. This would pave the way for applications on connected screens and allow the new Nest Hub to be a real tablet. But there again, even if this OS adapts more easily to humble devices, the experience may be difficult after a few years of ever more greedy updates.
