Corning has unveiled the latest additions to its Gorilla Glass material line, with Gorilla Glass Victus 2. This new glass is designed to better withstand drops on rough surfaces like concrete or asphalt.

The company’s tests of its new Victus 2 glass showed it could survive drops of up to 1 meter onto a “concrete-like surface”. Corning claims that “competitive aluminosilicate glasses from other manufacturers fail in drops of half a meter or less.” Further testing showed that the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 could also survive drops from 2 meters (just over selfie height) onto an analog asphalt surface. It can also resist scratches “up to four times better” than its competitors.

Mr. Velasquez noted that Victus 2 was designed with today’s larger and heavier smartphones in mind: “With more sophisticated and varied designs, today’s smartphones are nearly 15% heavier, and screen sizes are up to 10% larger, than four years ago – increasing both the stress on the cover glass and the likelihood of damage.”
Corning said the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is currently “under evaluation by multiple customers and is expected to hit the market in the coming months.”
Previous versions of Gorilla Glass have shipped in over 8 billion devices to date, with first-generation Victus Glass included in devices such as Google’s Pixel 7 Pro, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and many others.
