Government: 9 euro ticket will not be extended and there will be no speed limit

Representatives of the federal government have made it clear: the 9-euro ticket will not be extended and there will be no speed limit for motorways.

The 9-euro ticket has not even been decided, let alone entered into force, when the party “Die Linke” is already demanding an extension until the end of 2022. But the federal government has rejected it, as can be seen in this communication from the German Bundestag in response to a petition.

The Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport, Daniela Kluckert (FDP), explained that the 9-euro ticket planned for three months would result in costs of 2.5 billion euros. And further: “In view of the limited financial resources, it will remain ‘as of today’ with the one-off reduction.”

The Bundestag and Bundesrat are to approve the 9-euro ticket proposed by the federal government on May 19 and 20, 2022. It is then scheduled to come into force on June 1, 2022. There should be a total of three 9-euro tickets, one each for June, July and August. No general speed limit on motorways

And another important topic was addressed: the demand for a speed limit on German autobahns. As is well known, opinions within the traffic light coalition differ here, but the FDP is blocking a speed limit and has had this written into the coalition agreement. Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FPD) fights vehemently against a general speed limit on motorways – when he is not busy with the power consumption of food porn or the electric car premium. Therefore, it should come as no surprise to anyone that the government representatives emphasize once again that a speed limit will not come.

In summary, it can be said: “The federal government is currently planning neither a general speed limit on motorways nor an extension of the nine-euro ticket for public transport, which is limited to three months.”
