After a good ten years, Carinthia’s patient advocate Angelika Schiwek is retiring with Aprill. Former Klagenfurt city councilor Corinna Smrecnik has been considered the favorite for the post for a long time. This was finally decided on Tuesday at the 22nd meeting of the Carinthian state government. “Corinna Smrecnik will soon take over the patient advocacy role,” confirms State Governor Peter Kaiser. Steep SPÖ career And Smrecnik is no stranger. Even before her time in the Klagenfurt town hall, the Tainach native made a name for herself in the Carinthian SPÖ. While the 39-year-old had a stellar career with the Reds, her term as city councilor for urban development, transport planning, women, family and youth was extremely controversial. That’s why Smrecnik had to say goodbye to Klagenfurt town hall last October. As is well known, she was followed by Constance Mochar. “I’m happy about the new task.” For Smrecnik, the government decision is not only particularly pleasing, but also a major task. “I am very pleased and will carry out this task to the best of my knowledge and belief,” explains the qualified lawyer in an initial statement to the “Krone”. It will be particularly important for Smrecnik to pull together with all players and achieve the best result for the patients. Smrecnik was appointed by the Carinthian state government as a patient advocate for five years. Over 21 million for care. The change at the top of the Carinthian patient advocacy group was not the only big topic at the government meeting. There will also be big changes in another area of health in the future. Around 11,200 Carinthian nursing staff will receive a hefty bonus. “There is 2,460 euros for every full-time nurse,” says State Health Councilor Beate Prettner. The bonus package therefore has a total volume of 21.6 million euros.
