Gran Turismo 7 TEST: with the PSVR 2, it’s simply incredible!

Over a year ago now, in March 2022, owners of a PS5 or PS4 were able to get their hands on Gran Turismo 7, a crazy racing game expected by many players. Over the months, the developers listened to community feedback, tweaked certain aspects of the game, and added content for free. Speaking of novelties, our friends have included a new option to play in virtual reality via the PSVR 2. We returned to this friendly production in order to give you our impressions of the rendering in VR. So, good or bad?

The immersion is total!

First of all, you should know that we have access to the full game, which is reassuring. Then we were somewhat disturbed, because everything is in flat (menu, selection of a route, modification of a vehicle, etc.) until the start of a race. Once on the track, the view switches to VR and we take a monstrous slap in the face. The rendering is incredible and explodes our pupils without difficulty. View of the cockpit, our driver, the road, the scenery, the other competitors… Just turn your head to take a look at the mirrors or the blind spots, the immersion is total!

The play of light and the reflections play a lot on the sensations. Polyphony Digital tries to exhibit real renderings to immerse the user in a flashy virtual world. It’s very captivating! Thanks to the resolution of PlayStation VR 2we have neat and fine graphics that don’t give you a headache. Remember, in Gran Turismo SportsTHE PSVR first of the name displayed a large pile of runny pixels in the background, which often made you sick. And for good reason, a driver tends to look away naturally to anticipate turns and racing cars. Here, everything is neat and impeccable, it’s as if we were there. Funny point in order to realize the size of the vehicles, it is possible to admire them in a showroom in VR. The modeling of the cars is impressive, something to dream about…

Gran Turismo 7 23 11 2022 1 26 screenshot (14)Regarding handling, Gran Turismo 7 is played with the DualSense ; so you can store the PlayStation VR 2 Sense in your drawer. Several choices are available in the settings to control a four-wheeled machine, either with the joysticks or with the gyroscope. Basic, you should know that the sensations are really good with the controller of the PS5whether in terms of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers (see our full test available at the end of this test). To enjoy a slightly more engaging immersion, we recommend activating the controls via the motion sensors. The pad then becomes a “virtual” steering wheel, just lean it to one side or the other to turn, it still has its little effect. Note that tremors are also noticeable when our car bumps against something. Either way, the best way to be entertained is with a steering wheel and pedals (as with the Fanatec GT DD Pro). Honestly, we have the impression of being there, it’s ultra enjoyable. But to better give you an idea of the thing, we invite you to watch our dedicated live: PSVR 2: LIVE TEST of GRAN TURISMO 7 (GT7) with a FANATEC GT DD PRO (KILLING)!

Besides, know that it is possible to go online and compete against other participants in VR. Invite friends on the web and engage in fierce competitions. Something to have fun, you will understand. What about local multiplayer? Well, that’s a little disappointment. The image stays in flat and cuts in two… Thus, we can see the part of our comrade on a giant screen. Why didn’t you propose a feature allowing you to play in VR on one side and on a television on the other? The PS5 does not have enough resources to handle these types of displays at the same time? No doubt, but it would have been totally crazy to be able to have fun with a personal rendering/screen. Damage.

Gran Turismo 7 has evolved over time and has become a staple on PS5. With content galore and new options, the title is much more fun than when it started. There VR brings a little something extra to make us feel the power of a car and immerse ourselves in crazy races, alone on our sofa or online with crazy people behind the wheel. Polyphony Digital has done a fine job of bringing a unique experience to its community and the result is excellent, engaging and immersive. In other words, if you have a PSVR 2 at home, don’t miss this electric experience.
