Gran Turismo loses one of its best games with the killing off of the franchise’s last installment before GT7. It’s the end of an era, but all is not completely lost for early players.
We knew it, but it still hurts. Gran Turismo Sport finally bows out with a final update that cuts all online services. No more shop, no more multiplayer races, nothing at all. But drivers addicted to tarmac can rest assured, all is not lost, or almost…
It’s over for Gran Turismo Sport, we’re pulling the plug on everything
If Gran Turismo Sport has now been disconnected since January 31 (it’s still fresh), however, you will still be able to continue playing offline. And for that, you need cars. To reassure GT Sport fans, Polyphony Digital has affirmed that all is not lost, on the contrary, you will be able to keep everything you have unlocked, including additional modules purchased. All existing cars and custom settings will be retained, as will your career progress. You can continue all this offline.
On the other hand, a lot of features will go by the wayside, starting with the custom liveries, the Shop and even the community spaces. Some trophies will also be completely blocked, making the game now impossible to platinum. Polyphony gave the details on its blog, here is the complete list.
All features permanently removed from Gran Turismo Sport
- It will no longer be possible to purchase additional content through the PlayStation Store.
- Online services will be permanently discontinued: it will no longer be possible to use online service features such as Community, Open Room, Sports mode and Seasonal Events.
- Closure of the Kilometrage store.
- Blocking of Trophies linked to online modes.
- Disappearance of car liveries from the garage: it will no longer be possible to access personalized liveries after the online service is stopped. All vehicles with this type of livery will return to their original color.
Gran Turismo Sport was one of the biggest games of the PS4 era. Loved by players, the game has been regularly updated adding features, game modes and free cars galore. From now on, fans will have to turn to the very good Gran Turismo 7, available on PS4 and PS5, to satisfy their thirst for asphalt. Less than another license makes them look good, but that’s another story.
