Grand Theft Auto devs launch their first crypto game on Ethereum

Newcomer to video games blockchain. Take-Two Interactive Software is a renowned video game development studio. This is notably at the origin of licenses such as Grand Theft Auto (GTA). Now, the studio is preparing to enter the crypto ecosystem by developing a Web3 game.

Sugartown: Take-Two Interactive Software’s Web3 project

Within the entity take two there is a company specializing in mobile games: Zynga. This was purchased for the modest sum of $12.7 billion last year. In parallel, Zynga has a Web3 branch in its company called ZW3.

Recently, the company announced the launch of its first Web3 game project. Titled Sugartown, the game will reportedly be hosted on Ethereum.

Users will need to have an NFT, called Oras, in the form of an ERC-721 to access the game. 10,000 of these NFTs can be minted by the community later this year.

“Oras is Sugartown’s first collection. They allow holders to access the platform and the ecosystem. They were freed from another dimension when Pig and his friends accidentally breached Sugartown while coding a game on the farm. »

Once the NFT is in their pocket, users will be able to play various internal Sugartown games on it and generate energy as well as in-game currency to access rewards.

“Sugartown is a Web3 gaming platform that was built to go deep in games and story. The Oras are preparing many games available after the mint, but rumor has it that Mayor Mel is also working on something big that will be announced later. »

A juggernaut in Web3 video games

The arrival of a giant such as Zynga in the ecosystem of Web3 video games could well change the situation.

Indeed, if Sugartown is successful, it is the entire video game landscape that could change profoundly. This could in particular encourage other renowned studios to embark on the adventure of Web3 games.

Moreover, this large-scale experience could also unlock new features in other licenses. So, Strauss Zelnickthe CEO of Take-Two has mentioned the interest that NFTs could have in licenses like GTAespecially in the face of the amounts generated by microtransactions in the game.

Unfortunately for them, NFTs are not in their best period. Indeed, most of the collections, even emblematic ones, have seen their prices drop drastically. This is particularly the case of the famous BAYC.
