“GTA III” was released 20 years ago. To mark the anniversary, Rockstar Games is releasing a new edition of the classic and its successor games.

For more than two decades, players in the “GTA” series have been experiencing rousing stories and adventures in unscrupulous gangster settings. As part of the 20th anniversary of the classic “Grand Theft Auto III”, Rockstar Games is releasing a special new edition in digital form on November 11th at 4:00 pm. With “Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition” players get revised versions of “GTA III” and the successors “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City” and “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas”.

“With ‘GTA III’ we were able to sharpen our approach to developing games, and it has been with us in every game we make ever since […]. We want to create worlds that you feel like you are living in, that feel dynamic and are full of different characters, “explains Aaron Garbut, Head of Development and Co-Studio Head of Rockstar North, on the anniversary.

What’s new in the trilogy?

Now players can explore Liberty City, Vice City of the 80s and San Andreas in the 1990s again. For the new edition of the three games, Rockstar has, among other things, adapted the control layout for controllers to that of the mega hit “Grand Theft Auto V”. And a lot has happened, especially graphically. Among other things, the different characters and vehicles now have higher-resolution textures, there is a new lighting system as well as improved weather effects, shadows and details in the vegetation, and visibility has also been increased. A trailer gives impressions of the revised versions.

“Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition” is available digitally for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S and Nintendo Switch. Physical versions for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S and Switch will follow on December 7th. “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition” will also be available from November 11th in Xbox Game Pass and “Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition” will be available from December 7th on PlayStation Now.
