Greasing hair in quarantine – does that help?

Many of us in quarantine thought that this would be a great opportunity to get the hair greased properly – including us. Very few people know that this doesn't work at all.

Greasing hair – does that help?

Dr. Patricia Ogilvie, dermatological consultant from Head & Shoulders, explains: "The fact that the so-called greasing serves to protect the scalp belongs to the world of beauty myths. The scalp is not attacked or dried out by the right shampoos and conditioners adapted to the skin and hair type . " Our scalp doesn't think, so it can't get used to being washed less.

How often you have to wash your hair depends on the structure and type of scalp we have. With heavily greasy hair, it is not necessarily a good idea not to wash the hair for two weeks, it is unsanitary. "With 'greasing' you do not only do yourself a favor, but also yourself, because an unkempt scalp and greasy hair also have a negative impact on your mood. Nobody can really use that in this exceptional situation," explains Dr. Patricia Ogilvie. We can only agree, or have you ever felt really good with oily hair?

In addition to greasy hair, in quarantine we often have to deal with dandruff. Perhaps you have even noticed yourself that you suddenly have dandruff?

If you stay in closed rooms for a long time, increased scalp itching can occur.

The reason for this is, among other things, the dry room air, which dries out the scalp. The result is often early signs of dandruff, such as itching, dryness, irritation and greasy scalp, and the appearance of dandruff. That is exactly why it is important that we care for our hair (and scalp) regularly and effectively. Styling products can also stress our dry, stressed scalp (yes, we'll talk to you, dry shampoo!).

And how do you get rid of the scales? Of course, anti-dandruff shampoos help to restore balance to the head, but the right diet can also help. Food containing zinc in particular supports the formation of keratin and collagen and thus strengthens our hair structure. You can find zinc in sunflower seeds, flaxseed, oatmeal, Brazil nuts or legumes, for example. We also have a few effective home remedies for dandruff here for you.
