SBB has planned around 500 additional bicycle spaces by the end of 2026.
The railway company is still working on an improved system for the sometimes mandatory reservations, as announced on Wednesday.
The additional bicycle spaces will be gradually created in Intercity and Eurocity trains, as the SBB writes in a statement. The routes to Valais and Graubünden are particularly in demand.
Choice between 1st and 2nd class
The bicycle reservation system still has shortcomings. For example, customers would like the available spaces to be displayed. According to the announcement, it should be possible in the future to choose between first and second class. Some of the desired adjustments should be made in spring 2024.
From the timetable change in December 2022, the sales system will automatically indicate the cheapest ticket according to the SBB. In addition, only connections where it is possible to travel by bicycle would be displayed.
Compared to the previous year, 14 percent more bike passes were sold. The increase in reservations was three percent and in bicycle day tickets two percent.
