Even before the release of Steelrising in 2022, the French studio Spiders announced the development of GreedFall II: The Dying Worldalso simply called GreedFall 2. The trailer at the time mainly served as a teaser for what will constitute the beginning of the adventure, since we will play a character native to Teer Fradee who will be imprisoned and taken by force to the continent of Gacane. It was then specified a release in 2024 on PC and unspecified consoles, which are obviously the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Well, that won’t quite be the case. Indeed, GreedFall 2 will indeed be launched this year during the summer, but only on Steam in Early Accesswhich constitutes a great first for Spiders. The new trailer released on the occasion of the Nacon Connect 2024titled The Uprootingreturns to the premises of the adventure and delights our ears with what is undoubtedly an extract from theOST of the game, it remains to be seen whether Olivier Derivière is still behind.
It also introduces the idea that we can fight in teams of four with our companions, during confrontations that will be more tactical, without however being turn-based. During the live that followed on TwitchJehanne Rousseau indicated that we will have some control over these and that the combat system will be new for Spiders. Although this second episode will take place three years before the events of GreedFall, it’s not a prequel however, it should be seen more as another story in the same world. Character cameos may take place, but will not be at the heart of the story.
Returning to this universe allowed the team to make us visit places until now only mentioned as Olima within this great dying continent, while providing players with the same feeling of discovery, with even more exploration through the various biomes constituting the regions of this old world prey to wars and Malichor. On the other hand, it will not be an open world, but the areas will be large. Factions from the first game will also return, alongside others that will be new, and romance options with our companions will be possiblethe latter can also leave us if our behavior does not please them.
Concerning I’Early Accessit will allow the team to collect player opinions and improve the game during the different stages. Saves will not be compatible between each version of the buildwhich by the final launch will only provide access to between a quarter and a third of the overall content. Obviously, the price will be adapted and lower than at release, which is not fixed at the moment, the developers wishing to take their time to improve the game over the months. A way Photo is already plannedeven if it will not be included this summer.
