The green candidate for Chancellor Annalena Baerbock (40) is making one faux pas after the other. After cover-up and plagiarism allegations, there is now a fuss about a statement in Germany. In the Tachles Arena of the Central Council of Jews, she used the N-word when discussing racism in school books.
She quoted the word when telling a story about a student. He had refused to write a picture story on a worksheet that had the N word on it.
Outshone with beep
The interview is not due to be broadcast until the beginning of August. Shortly after the recording, however, Baerbock himself pointed out her mistake on Twitter and apologized for having reproduced racist language: “Unfortunately, in the recording of the interview, I quoted the N-word in the emotional description of this unspeakable incident.”
She continued: «That was wrong and I am sorry. Because I know about the racist origin of this word and the injuries that black people experience, among other things. “
During the broadcast and also with the excerpt that Baerbock published on Twitter, the word is therefore overplayed with a beep.
She criticized others
Spicy: A few months ago, the green mayor of Tübingen, Boris Palmer (49), also used the N-word, albeit in a different context and ironically. At that time, however, Baerbock called for his party to be excluded.
The Green boss described Palmer’s statement, which was addressed to the footballer Dennis Aogo, as “racist and repulsive”. She went on to say at the time: “To invoke irony retrospectively does not undo it.”
Make the case public
The criticism of Baerbock follows immediately. Also from our own ranks. The green member of the Bundestag Valerie Wilms (67) writes on Twitter: “The Greens are slowly making themselves absolutely ridiculous with their identity politics.”
The Schleswig-Holstein Minister of Education Karin Prien (56, CDU) calls on Baerbock to make the described case public. She also criticizes the Greens’ general criticism of racism at school.
Allegations harm the Greens
The green candidate for chancellor also hit the headlines because of other mistakes. According to journalistic research, she reported additional income of over 25,000 euros to the federal administration in March and described this as a “stupid omission”. In addition, she is also accused in her book “Jetzt. How we are renewing our country »to have quoted from other texts without giving the source.
The allegations against Baerbock damage her and her party. The polls for the Greens, who were even ahead of the CDU / CSU at times, have fallen massively. The CDU / CSU Union is currently ahead with 29 percent, the Greens 18 percent and the SPD 16 percent. The receipt will be given on September 26th, when Germany elects a new Chancellor. (gf)
