Sandra Oh played the cult character of Cristina Yang for 10 years in Grey’s Anatomy, but this role was not easy…
Shonda Rhimes’ cult series is still on screens as viewers patiently await season 18 of Grey’s Anatomy on TF1. Yet over the years, many actors and actresses left the cast for various reasons, and this is particularly the case of the talented Sandra Oh. The Korean-born actress is known for her role as Cristina Yang in the medical series, where she worked alongside Meredith Gray (Ellen Pompeo) for 10 seasons. The deep friendship between the two women was also one of the pillars of the series and despite his fictitious departure for Switzerland, Cristina is still mentioned regularly in the series for reasons of consistency.
For Cristina Yang as for Sandra Oh, the years spent in the hospital did not however not been easy. During a discussion during the Actors on Actors segment of varietySandra Oh was interviewed by Jung Ho-Yeon, young star actress of Squid Game which recently hit Netflix. During the chat, the Grey’s Anatomy star talked about the show’s popularity, how it shot to prominence and the consequences it had on her. “Honestly, it made me sick. I think my whole body was very sick, but even with that, we continue to work. I couldn’t sleep, my back hurt, I had skin problems…”.
Sandra Oh: “I learned that I had to take care of my health”
And according to Sandra Oh, the symptoms weren’t just physical. “It’s not just in our body, it’s also in our soul. So I learned that I had to take care of my health.” This is perhaps one of the reasons which pushed Sandra Oh towards the exit at the end of Season 10 of Grey’s Anatomy.
