Ellen Pompeo can’t quite get away from “Grey’s Anatomy” after all. Actually, her role Meredith Grey, who was the main protagonist of the successful medical series for 19 seasons, had already celebrated her departure from the series. It was never ruled out that Pompeo would return to the ABC series as a guest star. And that’s also happening on the show’s big anniversary.

Ellen Pompeo appears in at least 2 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy Season 20

Actress, director and executive producer Debbie Allen told ET magazine that Pompeo will appear in at least two episodes of Grey’s Anatomy season 20.

Allen even reveals that Pompeo appears in the first episode. Allen also directs the first episode. Even if they obviously have to let Pompeo go so that she can take up other projects, she is still their “queen” and their “number one”.

Meredith took leave of Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital in season 19 to take a new job at an Alzheimer’s research center in Boston.

Two episodes with Meredith Gray don’t sound like much at first, but since the new season was drastically shortened due to the writers and actors’ strikes and we can only expect ten new episodes, that’s a pretty good number. Pompeo will also remain as voiceover artist and will continue to be an executive producer.

“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 20 is scheduled to release on March 14, 2024 on ABC. In this country we can probably expect the new episodes to start six months later on Disney+, Joyn and ProSieben.
