Ground swell on France 2: what is this police TV movie worth with Pauline Bression (Plus belle la vie)?

France 2 broadcasts this Saturday April 22 the fiction “Lame de fond”, from 9:10 p.m. Pauline Bression, Eléonore Bernheim and Antoine Hamel star in this detective and dramatic TV movie. A success ?

What is it about?

The seaside resort of Dinard rolls out its red carpet for its British film festival when we discover the body of a young English director floating between two waters. The man didn’t drown, he was killed. Years earlier, he had already been the victim of a tragic shipwreck in which his teenage sister had lost her life. Are these two tragedies linked?

Lame de fond is a TV movie broadcast on France 2 on Saturday April 22, 2023, from 9:10 p.m.

Who is it with?

Pauline Bression, who slipped into the skin of Emma in Plus belle la vie, embodies the role of Elise in Lame de fond. She replies to two stars of France Télévisions: Eléonore Bernheim and Antoine Hamel. Both are respectively on the bill of the hit series The Art of Crime and The Trainee.

The public also finds in Lame de fond Stéphane Freiss (The Sleeping Village), Franz Lang (Marion) and Florence Muller (Bardot). Fabienne Lesieur and Victor Pavy are writing the screenplay for this unitary and Bruno Garcia is in charge of the production (he will soon be directing Nolwenn Leroy in the TF1 series Brocéliande).

It’s worth checking out ?

Do you know what a ground swell is? For those uninitiated in the language of the sea, it is a series of very violent waves which, when they hit, can lead to the drowning of bathers, the sinking of ships or even the destruction of the shores.

From the first minutes of Lame de fond, the public goes back in time and sees a group of teenagers on a boat at sea, not far from Dinard. Alas, the walk turns tragic because of… a ground swell. Through the fault of this uncontrollable water, one of them loses his life.

Now, the victim’s brother thinks he’s discovered something about this once-disappearance…but a new tragedy is unfolding. According to Elise, a solitary police captain from the country, these two deaths would be linked through her sister and some well-buried secrets.

It is the actress Pauline Bression (who confided in AlloCiné on this project) who plays Elise. After seven years in the skin of Emma in Plus belle la vie, we are pleased to find here the young actress who is finally playing a real adult role. And this one is doing very well! Our heroine, introverted and tenacious, is indeed quite intriguing…

In this TV movie, Pauline Bression shares the poster with Eléonore Bernheim and Antoine Hamel, in particular. The first is the star of The Art of Crime and the second intervenes in The Trainee. It is pleasant for the viewer to discover them in another register with Ground Lame.

The investigation described in these pretty Breton settings is interesting. Alas, we regret that the dramatic aspect of the story (the reasons and causes of these deaths) takes over in the story. We have the feeling that the investigation takes a back seat when the hidden truths of the past come to light…

The pace of fiction is sometimes slow, we would like to see a little more pep and a touch of madness on the screen. Finally, the romance that arises throughout Groundswell has a very predictable conclusion… and ultimately doesn’t add much.

Despite everything, this unit remains quite nice to follow thanks to its performers who offer different performances from usual. Fans of France Télévisions detective films will surely appreciate it.
